    Overall an excellent and entertaining read I m not sure why I had viewed oral histories with some a somewhat snobbish view until recently, since this and a few others I ve recently read are among my favorite books on the subjects covered.I ve deeply enjoyed the scholarly oral histories by Leon Friedman among others which often took place at symposiums held over several days focusing on the subject at hand Since the participants were in the same room, face to face, this probably kept the disagreements civil than some that spill out in this book by the Strober siblings Interviews for this book took place by phone and in person over two years, and I m a bit stunned at some of the off the cuff remarks.For example, Alexander Haig seems not only bitter, but perhaps a bit unhinged He shows no sign of the steady hand measured judgment that guided Nixon and the country delicately through a crisis, but his childish sniping at everyone, including the Reagans and Bill Clinton this is 1994 reveal hints at why he failed as Secretary of State a decade earlier His comment that Watergate is child s play compared to Whitewater betrays his muddled partisan thinking.As anot...

    Turns out I m not a fan of oral histories Lots of good anecdotes organized well but personally I d have preferred the subject be explored in depth at times Interesting and often conflict insights though.
